In the early 2000s, Associate Professor Artur Schmidtchen at the Biomedical Center, Lund University, Lund, Sweden, discovered that certain endogenous peptide structures had potent antimicrobial effects. Soon after the discovery, Schmidtchen et al filed patents covering their intellectual property.
Subsequently, DermaGen AB was founded in May 2004 by Associate Professor Artur Schmidtchen, Professor Martin Malmsten, Lund University Development AB and Karolinska Innovations AB.
Presently, the company focuses on developing therapeutic products based on novel antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) initially discovered at Artur Schmidtchen’s laboratory.
