DermaGen develops novel antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) directed against skin microbes, primarily bacteria. These peptide therapeutics generally kill microbes by disrupting their membranes and sometimes internal components, leading to cell lysis and death. Our pharmaceutical formulations enhance AMP potency and we have a strong patent portfolio covering a range of unique anti-infective peptides.
As our AMPs are derived from natural endogenous human proteins, such as those involved with the complement components of the immune system and several other skin- and blood-derived proteins, they minimize allergenic risk.
Large-scale production and purification of AMPs is now possible using today’s advanced synthesis techniques and molecular biotechnology.
DermaGen’s technology platform can be used to develop new innovative products with a focus on diseases with a high prevalence for which efficient and effective antibiotic treatments are lacking due to allergy or induction of microbial resistance. When our approved AMPs are used in topic treatments, it is expected that our novel technology will make a valuable contribution to dermatology.
