AMPs fight infections

All organisms mount an effective and rapidly acting immune defense comprising various AMPs in response to invading pathogens. These AMPs, which are ubiquitously distributed on and in epithelial surfaces, occur in plants and ranging from lower animals such as arthropods and insects to mammals.

Today, resistance development, allergy risks, as well as toxicity severely limit the use of classical antibiotics as well as antiseptic solutions for topical applications. This hampers optimal treatment of a variety of diseases such as atopic dermatitis and infected skin ulcers.
