DermaGen AB has implemented an aggressive IP strategy. Much effort has been made to file patent applications covering different products, second medical use* of endogenous AMPs as well as covering a large number of different variations of endogenous peptide structures constituting AMPs.
All AMPs are derived from proteins that are involved in the body’s response to microbial infections. Currently DermaGen has 5 patent families pending approval. These applications cover an array of AMPs from the following endogenous protein systems:
- The complement system (C3a), Family 1 and 2
- The contact system (D5 domain of kininogen), Family 1
- Growth factor (focus on a HB-EGF sequence and its variants), Family 3
- The coagulation system (a sequence and variants of a serine protease), Family 4
- Peptides linked to a second set of hydrophobic amino acid residues, Family 5
Our first patent has been granted in China.
* Second medical use claims being claims directed to a compound which in itself is not novel either as a compound or as a medical compound. However, such a compound may be novel as a new medical treatment and may thereby be covered by a second medical use claim according to case law defined by the European Patent Office.
